Water and The Sea

In Núria Riera’s work, the beach plays an important role. Núria loves to swim in the sea and as a visual artist, she makes it the protagonist of her works. She paints water using water and likes to explore color and the behavior of water on her paintings. Núria turned towards watercolors for her connection to the water element and also for her concern about the environmental impact of the art-making process, especially to our oceans.

Her paintings play with extreme compositions, often almost empty seascapes, deeply influenced by the winter months on the coast of Southern Spain, when the beach is deserted. Her artworks are intentionally straightforward and she seeks to stir the viewer’s emotions with the essence of the landscape.
